Where Development Has No Disability
Aktion Clubs are a service club with the same mission as Kiwanis, but it is unique in that all members are adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities. More than 12,000 adults with disabilities around the world are involved in this Kiwanis-family program, developing leadership skills while working with others to help those in need.
Aktion Club was started in 1987, when Kiwanis club member Jake Swartout organized the first club in Putnam County, Florida. Aktion Club became an official Service Leadership Program of Kiwanis International on October 1, 2000. Today, there are over 500 Aktion Clubs throughout the world.
Club members become competent, capable, caring leaders through the vehicle of service. Aktion Clubbers are passionate about serving their local community, and they plan and carry out their own service projects.
